On December 20, 2008, the Tamdakht meteorite made its dramatic entrance near Ouarzazate, Morocco, producing a bright fireball and sonic booms that startled local residents. The fall was observed, and within days, meteorite hunters recovered numerous fragments from a strewn field approximately 25 km long.
Classified as an H5 ordinary chondrite, Tamdakht is composed predominantly of silicate minerals, including olivine and pyroxene, with a notable presence of metal and sulfide phases. Its shock stage is S3, indicating moderate impact-related deformation, and it exhibits minimal weathering (W0), thanks to its rapid recovery in the arid Moroccan climate.
